Benefits of Green Construction
Wellness Environments is committed to our strategy for accomplishing a healthcare provider's goals while creating a pleasing, comfortable, safe, efficient and clean environment for the patients, the patient's families and the hospital's entire staff. In our industry, we pioneered the principles of "Green Design" and we make every attempt to follow the recommendations of the U.S. Building Council. Construction waste is greatly reduced when we install a Wellness room for a healthcare facility which means there is less wasted material sent to the landfill. We also make every effort to use furniture and fixtures that contain wood products harvested from responsibly managed forests.
At your hospital construction site, our modular construction produces very little dust and debris. Where Aspergillosis and other fungal diseases are a major concern, the cleaner environment can be a major advantage during hospital construction or hospital renovations. Since Wellness Environments wall panels arrive at the construction site ready to install, almost every square inch of material is used. Check out the list of environmental attributes for construction of our Wellness rooms:
- Medium density fiberboard used in furniture products is formaldehyde-free
- Majority of the lighting uses compact fluorescent technology
- Energy saving ballasts and lamps meet the Green Seal standards
- Acoustical insulation is made from recycled PET with no formaldehyde
- Faucet and shower heads are energy saving plumbing fixtures
- Patient controlled electric window shades can reduce solar heat gain
- Patient controlled room lighting means lights not in use can be turned off
- Many of our manufacturers offer products produced from recycled materials
Any aluminum scrap that is leftover from trimming sections for installation is recycled. In contrast, traditional hospital room construction generates an excessive amount of waste that ends up at the local dump. Practically every component used during construction of our Wellness patient rooms can be uninstalled and reused.
The modular reusable nature of the Wellness Environments interior components means there is very little destruction and waste product when the system is removed. When properly installed, over 90% of the interior patient room structures can be reused. Plus, the parts that are removed from our Wellness room are recyclable. Wellness Environments are manufactured using 88% post-consumer recycled content and the majority of the materials removed during hospital construction or healthcare environment renovation can be salvaged and diverted from landfills. Wellness Environments are LEED certified by the U.S. Green Buildings Council in nine environmental categories.
